This site is an independent guide to Mahale, written to answer the questions travellers actually ask before they visit.

Most people arrive with the same four questions. The first is when to go, and the answer turns on the dry season rather than on anything the camps themselves control.

The second is what the whole thing costs, which in Mahale is driven far more by charter flights and the small number of beds than by the trekking permit.

The third is how you actually get there, since the park is roadless and reached only by light aircraft and then a boat along the lakeshore.

The fourth is where to stay, and with only a handful of camps operating inside the park that question tends to settle your dates as well.
